A twisted tale of love, blackmail and murder set against the emotional world of surrogacy, Glass Babies explores the scientific breakthrough of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) to not only provide a baby to a loving mother, but as a means to fulfill a family legacy.
Desperate to provide an heir to the family fortune and unable to conceive naturally, Sally (Belinda Davey) and Michael Craig (Andrew Sharp) are at their wits' end. Concerned about securing a dynasty to carry on his empire, millionaire winemaker John Craig (George Mikkel) dispatches his lawyer Brendan Keller (Garry Day) to arrange IVF treatment for Sally and Michael as well as a possible surrogate mother.
Dr. Ruth McCrae (Gold Logie winner Rowena Wallace) brings the Craig family dreams closer to reality, also treating Joan Simpson (Deborra-Lee Furness) who, for a sum of money, agrees to act as a surrogate for the family. However, when an unexpected turn of events leads to tragedy, opportunities are wide open for deception and blackmail forcing Joan to weigh up the true value of her baby's love.
