Description
When hard-working British actress Gertrude Lawrence (Oscar ® winner Julie Andrews, The Sound of Music) secures a sought after place in a 1920s production penned by soon-to-be legendary playwright Noel Coward titled "London Calling!" her life on stage changes forever.
Buoyed by its success she is lured to New York, where the bright lights of Broadway and the promise of fame propel her into the stratosphere. Establishing a name as a star and giving her adoring public what they want, Lawrence learns to live the high life, becoming a muse for one of the era's best-known producers Richard Aldrich (Richard Crenna, The Sand Pebbles).
